Trastevere is one of Rome’s most charming neighborhoods, with winding cobblestone streets, ivy-covered buildings, and some of the best restaurants in the city. As a food-obsessed traveler, I made it my mission to eat at as many of Trastevere’s restaurants as possible during my last trip. Here are the spots that left the biggest impression and some spots I still have saved to go back to my next round!

This cozy trattoria serves up some of the best pasta in Rome. Their spaghetti alle vongole (with clams) is absolute perfection – briny, garlicky, and dripping with olive oil. This is one of my favorite dishes and it did not disspoint!

2. Trapizzino

These triangular, pizza-like pockets stuffed with fillings like cacio e pepe and meatballs are a brilliant Roman street food invention. Trapizzino always has a line out the door, and for good reason. The pillowy dough with just the right amount of crunch pairs so well with the rich, flavorful fillings. A trapizzino and a Peroni is my idea of the perfect quick bite.

3. Ivo a Trastevere

There’s nothing fancy about this pizzeria, just simple and true Roman-style pizzas baked to thin, crispy perfection in a no-frills setting.

4. Bar San Calisto

When the sun goes down, this lively bar transforms into one of Trastevere’s top nightlife spots. Locals and visitors alike flock here for cold beers, Aperol spritzes, and snacks like bruschetta. The energetic atmosphere and prime people watching make it the perfect place to start or end a night out.

5. Caffe del Cinque

For a peaceful morning espresso and pastry, this darling cafe can’t be beat. Sipping a cappuccino at one of their sidewalk tables as Trastevere wakes up before setting out to explore Rome. It’s just darling!

6. Mimi e Coco

The carbonara and aperitivo platter here have stellar reviews, but the true star is the atmosphere. Strings of lights and vines framing the tables make it one of Trastevere’s most romantic dinner spots. Go at sunset for those golden hour views.

7. La Tavernaccia Da Bruno

La Tavernaccia Da Bruno is a beloved family-run trattoria serving top regional specialties. Locals rave about the suckling pig, spaghetti alla gricia, and pizzas. With a frequently changing handwritten menu, ask your server for the latest standout dishes. It’s one of Trastevere’s best spots for authentic, locally-loved dining.

8. Osteria da Zi Umberto

For unfussy, traditional Roman fare, this trattoria is a reliable bet. Their cacio e pepe is creamy and peppery perfection. It’s the type of place that makes you feel like a local.

9. Roma Sparita

One of the best restaurants in Trastevere is also no surprise featured on Anthony Bourdain’s show, this spot serves up drool-worthy dishes like tagliolini cacio e pepe baked in a parmesan bowl. Definitely make a reservation if you want to experience this Trastevere institution.

10. Impiccetta

Creative takes on classics like bomboloni all’amatriciana make this a unique option.

11. Suppli Roma

For the perfect fried rice and mozzarella suppli on the go, this little spot churns them out fresh hourly. An addictive Roman street food snack.

With so many excellent options, Trastevere is a must visit for any Rome trip. Just come hungry and ready to eat your way through the neighborhood! Let me know if I’m still missing any must-try places from your Trastevere food tour! It seems like such an incredible neighborhood for culinary exploration.
