We gather the distinct, well-loved places — the ones with a real sense of place, found by people who were actually there. A fresh way of seeing the world, for anyone still curious enough to look.
Our Philosophy
COCO TRAN IS AN
online travel publication with a perspective you won’t find elsewhere: part travel advisor, part photographer, one person doing both. That blend is the whole point — every place recommended here has been considered the way an advisor sources a trip and seen the way a photographer sees a room, which means you get the practical and the beautiful in the same story. Our intention is simple: inspire meaningful, intentional travel, and point you toward high-end and boutique stays that actually matter — not because they’re expensive, but because someone poured themselves into making them.
To me, elevated travel is
really about the intention and care put into something that makes us feel more. It’s about the journey, the story behind a place, the passion of the person who built it, the reason it exists at all. Good hospitality is meant to make you feel something — relaxed, adventurous, curious, intentional. That’s what I’m looking for wherever I go: places that were made with care, and that make you feel cared for in return.
THAT SHOWS UP IN
all kinds of forms. A boutique hotel in an interesting corner of the world. A small, family-run inn that’s been passed down for generations. The genuinely luxurious property where every detail was considered. The unassuming restaurant with the best table in town and no sign out front. The tiny, undiscovered gem I stumbled on and can’t stop thinking about. It’s all in between — curated not because of what it costs, but because of what it means.
THIS IS A JOURNAL FOR
people who travel to feel something, not just to check a place off. If you’re curious, if you slow down for good light and good stories, if you’d rather find one place you love than ten you’ve merely seen — I think you’re going to feel at home here. iT ALSO HAPPENS TO serve a second purpose. This is the same well I draw from for my travel advising clients — the properties, restaurants, and small discoveries here are often the ones I’m already recommending in private, one trip at a time. So think of this journal as two things at once: a place to read for the simple pleasure of it, and an insider’s guide, in case you ever want to turn what you’re reading into your own trip. The two overlap more than you’d think.
Our Story
I STARTED BEHIND A CAMERA
not in front of a byline. For years I photographed weddings — other people’s biggest, most unguarded days — and it taught me to watch for light, timing, and the small, quiet moments that make a place feel true. Somewhere along the way, the curiosity that had always pulled me toward new places and beautiful light turned into something more. Clients started asking where to go, where to stay, what was actually worth their time — and I loved answering. That became my travel advisory, Coco Tran Travel.
I kept hitting the same
wall: I couldn’t find a source I trusted. Every guide seemed to answer to an advertiser or a search algorithm before it answered to me. I wanted something warmer than that — something built by a person, for people who care the way I do. So I started building it myself.

This journal is where
The three things I love most finally live together: travel, photography, and writing about both, honestly. Everything here comes from somewhere I’ve actually stood — as an advisor who’s sourced these places for real people on real trips, and as a photographer who was trained to notice what a brochure never shows you.
more than anything
I hope this becomes a place that encourages meaningful travel — the kind where you’re actually there, not just en route to the next thing. Because if you spend a trip already thinking about the next one, the good part passes you by. What you choose to notice on a trip says a lot about what you choose to notice in life. I hope this journal helps you notice more of it.
right now it’s
just me. Every story, photograph, and recommendation here comes from me directly — no ghostwriters, no stock photography, no borrowed opinions. It’s slower this way, but it’s honest, and that matters more to me than moving fast.
Still, I can’t be
everywhere, as much as I’d love to try. My role is to be the curator, the photographer, and the writer — the person shaping this journal and standing behind everything in it — but not the only voice in it. So I lean on the people I genuinely trust: hoteliers, chefs, fellow photographers and creatives, and travel and hospitality friends and colleagues I go to directly with the questions I know you’d ask, so the answers come from the source.
I also welcome
a small number of outside contributions, always credited to the person who wrote or shot them. If you’re a photographer, a writer, or simply a curious traveler with a story worth telling, I’d genuinely love to read it.
My hope is
that this doesn’t stay a team of one forever. I’d love to slowly grow this into a small, close community of creatives and travelers — people who are moved by places and by the stories they carry home — who’d rather go deep on a few places than skim the surface of everywhere. if any of that sounds like you, or you have a place, a photo, or a story you think belongs here, I’d love to hear from you: email us
Thank you
for being here. I hope you find something that moves you — and that you come back.
xx,
