If you have a sweet tooth and are looking for some delicious treats to satisfy your cravings, you’re in luck. Sacramento, my hometown, has a thriving dessert scene, with plenty of options to choose from. Here is a list of my best dessert places in Sacramento!

GINGER ELIZABETH’S
If you’re a chocolate lover, you can’t miss Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates! This charming shop in Midtown Sacramento serves up some of the most decadent and delicious chocolates, pastries, and hot chocolate in town. Their truffles are a delight, with unique flavors like lavender honey and black sesame. They offer seasonal specials so make sure to check them out!
For a taste of Japan in Sacramento, head to Mahoroba Bakery. This bakery is down the street from my house, so I often walk here with the dogs for an afternoon treat. They specialize in Japanese pastries, called a “pan” or bun. The pan from Mahoroba Japanese Bakery is filled with chocolate cream, cream custard, or their delicious matcha cream!
No list of the best desserts in Sacramento would be complete without Gunther’s Ice Cream. This family-owned spot has been serving up classic ice cream flavors like mint chip and rocky road since 1940. They also offer seasonal flavors like pumpkin and eggnog during the holidays. They have THE BEST creamiest vanilla ice cream ever. Pair that with their freeze to make it a 50/50 freeze and you won’t even notice it’s scorching outside.
If you’re in the mood for classic American desserts, Rick’s Dessert Diner is the place to go. This downtown Sacramento gem has been serving up delicious pies, cakes, and more since 1986. Their banana cream pie and red velvet cake are delicious! They are open late, so now you have a spot to go to if you’re craving something sweet!
Marie’s Donuts is a beloved Sacramento institution, in the heart of Freeport Blvd that has been serving up delicious donuts since 1960. This no-frills spot offers a variety of classic donuts, from glazed and cake donuts to twists and fritters. They also offer a variety of filled donuts, including jelly, custard, and chocolate. They open early and stay open late!

LEATHERBY’S CREAMERY
Leatherby’s Family Creamery is a Sacramento staple. They have been serving up delicious ice cream since 1982. Their ice cream is made in-house using high-quality ingredients. Their famous banana split is a must-try (get their fudge, OMG, it will blow your mind) and they also offer sundaes, shakes, and other classic ice cream treats.
Freeport Bakery has been a Sacramento favorite since 1987, offering a wide variety of cakes, pastries, and other sweet treats. Their cakes are most popular, with unique flavors like chai tea and lemon lavender. They also offer a selection of gluten-free and vegan options! Their carrot cake and champagne strawberries cake are my favorites.
The new and popular donut hybrids have made it to Sactown! The unique texture of these “mochi donuts” by mixing Japanese mochi dough and traditional donut dough to make a delightful fluffy yet chewy treat in colorful and tasty combinations. So many fun flavors to choose from!
If you’re gluten-free or vegan, Pushkin’s Bakery is the place to go for delicious desserts. This bakery in midtown Sacramento has a variety of gluten-free and vegan options, including cakes, cupcakes, and pastries. Their vegan chocolate cake is particularly popular!
they specialize in making delicious pies. All of their pies are made from scratch using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and they offer a variety of flavors to choose from. Their apple pie is delicious with a flaky crust and perfectly spiced filling.
Frank Fat’s banana cream pie is a Sacramento classic! It’s an unexpected combo, a classic Chinese restaurant, and an American Classic dessert, but I swear it’s a go-to for many of us locals. It’s made from scratch daily from a recipe from Frank Fat himself since the 1940’s. Order ahead and share a piece of the banana goodness.
Milk Money Donuts is a popular donut shop located in Sacramento that is known for its creative and delicious donut flavors. This place is on trend and combines delicious flavor combos and aesthetic pretty donuts! They sell out their daily specials early so plan ahead!
Farias Bakery is my go-to bakery. They offer a variety of fresh-baked bread and savory items, including sandwiches and the BEST croissants. Their bread is made in-house and is available in a variety of flavors, including whole wheat, rye, and sourdough.
