I’ve now spent a night at Four Seasons Anguilla and several at Cap Juluca, close enough together that the contrast is still fresh instead of half-remembered. These are the two properties everyone cross-shops on this island — Google surfaces the exact question “which resort is better” when you search either name — and almost nobody comparing them has actually stayed at both. Cap Juluca sits alone on Maundays Bay, the quieter of Anguilla’s marquee resorts. Four Seasons sits between Barnes Bay and Meads Bay, bigger, busier, built for groups rather than a couple trying to disappear. Both are luxury five-star properties. They’re not selling the same trip.
The location
Cap Juluca’s whole identity is Maundays Bay — one crescent of impossibly soft sand, voted the most beautiful beach in Anguilla. And “every villa facing the water head-on, nothing to do but walk to dinner. Four Seasons spreads across 35 acres between two beaches, Barnes and Meads, and that scale changes how the property feels before you’ve unpacked: golf carts, longer walks, more going on at once. Getting to either means the same Anguilla tax — a flight into AXA airport on Anguilla or a flight to St. Maarten and a ferry across — so the difference isn’t access, it’s what’s waiting once you land. Cap Juluca hands you quiet the moment you arrive. Four Seasons hands you options.
The Vibe
The amenities
Cap Juluca’s amenity model is service, not square footage — a dedicated Villa Host assigned to every guest for the length of the stay, a spa built in 2024 with an adults-only plunge pool that’s arguably the best view on the property, and a small kids club. Four Seasons runs the opposite model: three pools including a separate adults-only Sunset Pool and a family-friendly Bamboo Pool, a 24-hour gym with more equipment than most guests will use in one trip, and Kids For All Seasons, a real supervised kids’ club with babysitting on top of it. Cap Juluca’s gym is actually the nicer of the two, with a reformer and full Technogym line Four Seasons doesn’t carry — the one amenity category where bigger didn’t win.
