Although the island of Mallorca isn’t huge, it offers very different landscapes. From the northwest famous hilltop towns to the beautiful turquoise beaches and calas that are quintessential of this Basque island. When doing my research and asking other people who have gone.

The resounding recommendation I’ve gotten are these few towns. So now after my trip, I would have to agree. When friends and family ask where they should stay this is always. my recommendation.

I prefer to experience and explore as many aspects of the scenery as possible. So I recommend to base yourself at these two locations to minimize driving and maximize proximity for exploring. So both of these locations will offer you to see both the quaint hilltop towns and Mallorcas beaches.

Deià puts you amid the imposing Tramuntana mountain range, full of hiking and cycling trails to occupy your days. Then return to your hotel overlooking the village and coastline as the sun sets.

A few miles south of Deià sits the slightly larger village of Valldemossa, dominated by its towering stone monastery. Making a wonderful base for explorations of northwest Mallorca.

This area allows easy day trips to the lively port town of Sóller, charming Fornalutx village, and the rugged trails of Serra de Tramuntana park. Then unwind back in Valldemossa at hotels like Mirabó with gorgeous vista views.

Valldemossa provides the warm hospitality of a countryside retreat, balanced with adequate shops and restaurants so you don’t require a rental car every time you need dinner or a cold drink.

Tip: Valldemossa is a great alternative to Deis as the accommodation tends to be more affordable. But my first choice would be Deis.

03. Santanyí

On Mallorca’s northern tip, the valley town of Pollença offers laidback beaches and gorgeous scenery without intense crowds.

Staying here provides easy access across this whole region – from the fishing village of Port de Pollença to the unspoiled Parc Natural de s’Albufera wetlands to the remote sandy magic of Platja de Formentor beach.

Although it feels and looks like a your typical resort town, I don’t personally like it here because it was just not as authentic to the Mallorca scene you pictured. Reminds me of Cancun which I enjoy, but I’m also not interested in going to Mallorca to experience this.
